What causes coughing?
Apipol Honey Syrup is a natural combination of apian products and healing herbs, and combines the healing properties of honey, marsh mallow root extract and propolis tincture. Honey is a natural substance produced by bees that has been shown to have antimicrobial properties while propolis has additional immunostimulative properties.
Marsh mallow root extract has mucilaginous properties. By coating an irritated mucous membrane, it reduces contractions of smooth muscles of the upper respiratory tract, and suppresses the cough reflex.
Cough treatment is primarily symptomatic. A treatment of dry, nonproductive cough involves the so-called antitussives. These drugs bring relief to a coughing patient by inhibiting the cough reflex development. Other drugs, the so-called expectorants, are used when cough is caused by accumulation of phlegm and other fluids from lungs or throat passages. They assist in expelling the phlegm.
