The company APIPHARMA Ltd., pharmaceutical, food, and cosmetic industry and trade is the first and only privately owned pharmaceutical company in Croatia.  The company has grown from an old and regionally traditional craft of beekeeping and mead and gingerbread making, under the name of Apimarket. A pharmaceutical production was initiated in 1996.
The company's tradition dates back to 1974 when the company exhibited its products and gained recognition for the first time. Although the first steps were made much earlier, there have been no written documents left; the above stated year has therefore been determined as the initial point of the business activities.

The original name of the company was "Tomislav Lalić Apicultural Products"; members of the Lalić family of Zagreb were the founders of this pharmaceutical company. On the other hand, the name was chosen in accordance with regulations of the then laws, which allowed mechanical processing of honey and herbs as part of cottage industry while herb processing was not regulated in other handicrafts . |
Over the years the production has gathered competence and fully developed by means of research studies on propolis activities carried out in cooperation with the Faculty of Pharmacy and Biochemistry of the University of Zagreb. Under guidance of the Faculty of Food Technology and Biotechnology of Zagreb forms more suitable for human nutrition were developed. They contained planned quantities of vitamins, sugar, minerals, and other ingredients.
